SERMI is a general plan that will be implemented by different organizations in each European country. You can find more information about it here. (http://www.vehiclesermi.eu/)
SERMI is the procedure established in the European Union to accredit, approve and authorize access to any repair and maintenance information related to vehicle security systems (airbags, braking systems, etc.) and anti-theft systems. LTR has been accredited as a Conformity Assessment Body (OEC), so we are responsible for approving workshops' access to sensitive vehicle information..
Manufacturers and workshop operators across Europe have been in talks for more than a decade in an attempt to develop a system where only a master certificate is needed to access safety information from each vehicle manufacturer, rather than an authorization separate from each manufacturer.
The new system is expected to save time and money by offering a central approval system and an online platform that will link with all manufacturers.
Joining the SERMI scheme will facilitate the process of accessing safety-related information and will also demonstrate that your workshop has met strict standards regarding the character and integrity of you and your technicians. If you are not certified through the SERMI scheme, you may find it increasingly difficult to access safety-related information from vehicle manufacturers.
They can apply to LTR for approval for a SERMI certificate. Applicants will be assessed fairly but strictly in accordance with the rules and processes set out in the SERMI scheme.
There are some important documents you'll need as part of the process, so it's worth starting to gather them now.
These are:
A SERMI certificate will be valid for five years. Once your application has been approved, LTR will audit you, at least twice, during that period. The audits will be carried out in the form of on-site visits, a pre-arranged inspection and another without prior notice.
